Lee Karuri is a 51 years old Kenyan business leader, entrepreneur and architect who has passion for Kenya as well as Africa’s economic and socio development.
He studied architecture in the University of Nairobi and graduated in 1989. He founded together with a friend in 1994 Dimensions Architects and Interior Designers a leading firm of architects in East and Central Africa.
He diversified 10 years ago into Real Estate development and currently serves as Chairman of Home Afrika, a leading Real Estate Development Company listed in the Nairobi Securities Exchange. He also chairs Resorts and Cities Limited a company developing Resorts and Cities in Kenya and later will expand to the rest of Africa.
He has participated actively in the last 10 years as a member of key organizations that champion Kenya’s Economic Development Agenda. These include the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) the umbrella body of the business community in Kenya where he has served as chairman. He currently serves in the Board of Trustees of KEPSA.
He has also served as a member of the National Steering Committee of Vision 2030 from 2006 to 2008 that developed and published Kenya’s National Development Vision 2030. He served as a member of the National Committee that developed the Economic Recovery Strategy (ERS) that was the basis of Kenya’s growth and government Socio-economic development agenda between 2003 and 2007.
He served as an advisor to the former President H.E. Mwai Kibaki and was awarded with the Order of the Grand Warrior “OGW” honor for distinguished national service in 2004. On service related to International organizations, he has served as Chairman for the Danish Advocacy Fund for Kenya Private Sector Development. He has also served on the board of Transparency International (TI) Kenya Chapter that champion’s good governance and integrity in the management of public affairs.
He has been a speaker in economic conferences in England, USA and South Africa. Today he serves as a member of the Presidential round table convened by the President of Kenya to dialogue with business leaders to address the National Development Agenda. On community service, he champions transformation and empowerment of communities. To this end, he chairs the governing council of the Africa International University based in Nairobi.
In addition together with his family, founded Mwangaza Trust which supports vulnerable individuals and families in education, food security, economic empowerment and spiritual growth. He is a born again Christian and serves as a Trustee of Parklands Baptist Church in Nairobi where he attends with his family.
